Aluminum Siding Repair in South Bend, Mishawaka & Northern Indiana
Loose panels that rattle in the wind, hail dents, faded or chalky paint, a section you can't find a match for: older aluminum siding usually needs targeted repair, not a whole new house of siding. Hoosier Cladding repairs aluminum siding for homeowners in South Bend, Mishawaka, Elkhart, Granger and the surrounding Michiana area, and we'll tell you honestly when repair makes sense and when it doesn't.
Common Aluminum Siding Problems We Repair
Aluminum siding was installed on a lot of Northern Indiana homes decades ago. The metal itself is durable, but the paint finish, fasteners and locking edges wear out with age, and Indiana's wind, hail and freeze-thaw cycles find the weak spots.
Loose or Rattling Panels
Aluminum expands and contracts with temperature. Over time panels can unlock from the course below or work loose at the nails, so they rattle, bow out, or lift in high wind. We re-lock the panels, re-fasten them correctly so they can still move with the seasons, and replace any that have bent or torn.
Dents and Hail Damage
Unlike vinyl, aluminum doesn't flex back after an impact. Hail, ladders, balls and lawn equipment leave permanent dents. Isolated dents can sometimes be filled and painted; the more durable fix is to cut out and replace the damaged section of panel.
Faded Color and Chalking
If your hand comes away covered in white or colored powder, the factory finish is chalking. The siding looks faded and streaky, but the aluminum underneath is usually sound. Cleaning off the chalk and repainting with an exterior coating made for metal siding restores the color without replacing panels.
Oxidation and Corrosion
Where the paint has worn through, bare aluminum oxidizes into a dull, rough surface, most often near the ground, around gutters and downspouts, and where sprinklers hit the wall. We clean and treat oxidized areas before repainting, and replace panels that are pitted or perforated.
Matching Discontinued Colors
Most residential aluminum siding profiles and factory colors are no longer made, so a new panel rarely matches 30-year-old siding. We can relocate original panels from a hidden wall to the damaged area, repaint a whole wall so old and new blend, or replace one full side of the house. We'll show you the options before any work starts.
Damaged Trim, Corners and Water Getting In
Bent corner posts, loose J-channel and gaps around windows and doors let water behind the siding. We repair or replace the trim, re-seal and flash the openings, and check the sheathing behind for moisture damage while the siding is open.

Repair, Repaint or Replace?
Not every aluminum siding problem needs new siding. Here is how we usually think about it:
- Repair when the damage is limited to a few panels or one area (wind-loosened courses, a dented section, a damaged corner) and the rest of the siding is solid.
- Repaint when the panels are sound but the finish is faded, chalking or mismatched after a repair. Repainting is also a common way to blend replacement panels into old siding. We also offer exterior painting.
- Replace when dents, loose panels or corrosion are widespread, when there's moisture damage behind the siding, or when you'd be paying to patch a house that needs re-siding anyway.
If replacement is the better choice
Most Indiana homeowners replacing old aluminum siding choose vinyl or fiber cement. If that's where your project ends up, see our house siding replacement service and our Indiana siding replacement cost guide for typical pricing.

Aluminum Siding Repair FAQ
Can aluminum siding be repaired, or does it have to be replaced?
Most aluminum siding problems can be repaired. Loose or rattling panels can be re-locked and re-fastened, individual dented or damaged panels can be replaced, and chalky or faded siding can be cleaned and repainted. Full replacement usually only makes sense when damage is widespread across the house, there is moisture damage behind the siding, or matching panels cannot be found and you want a uniform look.
Can you match my old aluminum siding color?
Exact matches are often difficult because most residential aluminum siding profiles and factory colors are no longer made. Common solutions are moving original panels from a less visible wall (such as the back of a garage) to the damaged area and patching the hidden spot, repainting an entire wall so old and new panels match, or replacing one full elevation. We will walk you through which option fits your house during the free estimate.
What is the white chalky residue on my aluminum siding?
That powder is chalking: the factory paint finish breaking down after years of sun and weather. It rubs off on your hand and makes the color look faded. Chalking does not mean the aluminum is failing. The usual fix is a careful cleaning to remove the chalk, followed by repainting with an exterior coating suited to metal siding.
Can dents in aluminum siding be fixed?
Aluminum does not spring back the way vinyl does, so dents from hail, ladders, or impacts are permanent. Small, isolated dents can sometimes be filled and painted, but the most reliable repair is to cut out and replace the damaged section of panel. If the dents came from a storm, the damage may be covered by homeowners insurance, and we can help document it for your claim.
How much does aluminum siding repair cost?
We do not publish a set price for aluminum siding repair because the cost depends on how many panels are affected, whether matching panels are available, and whether there is damage behind the siding. We provide free estimates, so call (574) 931-2119 or request an estimate online and we will give you a written quote after looking at your siding.
